Referred to as ‘the man with the magnificent voice’, singer songwriter Marc Evans has covered nearly every genre in music to get to where he is today. Praised for his diversity within soul Marc Evans’ debut album ‘The Way you Love me’ has caused a stir among music critics across the board.
As a child Evans was surrounded by 70’s soul and R&B from both parents who were active musicians. Following the trends during high school he became part of a rap band in the 80’s but broke away from this towards the end of school to focus on singing. Realising the impact of his voice he joined a gospel choir in college. This is where he fell in love with music and decided that he wanted nothing else. He formed a band called ‘Voice Of Reason’, a group of musicians who enjoyed playing anything from Jazz to house covers. This helped Evans to develop as a songwriter incorporating various genres taking time to train his voice in these styles before releasing ‘Wings To Walk This Road’ on Warner Bros followed by ‘The First Seven Years’ his debut indie recording.
Later that year he teamed up with local hero DJ Spen to release ‘The Way You Love Me’ a record with a style of its own which became popular among DJs in all scenes. This welcomed the follow up single ‘I Don’t Want You Anymore’. These two unique singles earned Evans a spot at the UK’s Southport Soul Weekender. The response he got was huge so huge that Defected Records arranged for DJ Spen and the Muthafunkaz to produce an album for Marc Evans setting the release date for September 2008. The album entitled ‘The Way You Love Me’ has been received warmly by all picking up 10/10 in Blues & Soul magazine, described by one reviewer as "the reason I do this job". Expect to be hearing a lot more from Mr. Magnificent in the years to come.
