A lot's been made of the house revival of late. Former techno producers like Joris Voorn, Reboot and the like have been making disco sampling house, more suited to sunlit terraces than to dark German basements, and here at Defected, we quite frankly love it.

Another guy to have perfected the art of making the new sound old in an oh-so pleasing way is Riva Starr. His remix of Reboot's 'Enjoy Music' dropped this week and he's just been confirmed as mixing this year's Miami compilation, so what better time to catch up for a quick chat...

How’s the New Year treating you so far?

Amazing start, my artist album - dropping on February  1st with a few massive remixes (Reboot, Xpress2, Lionrock etc...) - is getting airplays and I've been doing lots of banging gigs!

What were your 2009 highlights?

The release of my 'I Was Drunk' feat. Noze single from the album.

Your remix of Reboot’s ‘Enjoy Music’ got a spin from Pete Tong last week...tell us about the track. Why did the remix appeal to you?

I love Reboot’s production. He’s one of the best producers for me at the moment. I wanted to work on a 'classic house' acappella to produce something different to my usual stuff. There’s a dub as well for those who don’t 'Enjoy Vocals'...lol!

You’re mixing Defected In The House Miami ’09...have you started thinking about which tracks to include?

Yes! There will be 2 CDs, with the first one pure house/tech house tunes with loads of exclusives and mashups. The second disc will be more on the worldbeat house tip..Can't say more at this stage so watch this space!

Does the Miame WMC still have relevance from an artist’s point of view, or is it all about ADE now?

I like to think that Miami conference is stil the father of them all. It's still a fun atmosphere and there are a lot of industry people out there (most of them drunk...lol).

Any other projects in the pipeline?

My label Snatch! will be launched in March plus I've got a few other remixes and collaborations on new tunes on the way.

What do you hope to achieve in 2010?

I just want to keep doing my thing.
