An eclectic mix of production styles has seen King Unique (AKA Matt Thomas) played by DJ's across the board from Sasha to Soulwax and Richie Hawtin to Tiesto. Ralph Gum's productions have received critical acclaim from the likes of 'Blues and Soul' mag and Germanys 'Subculture' and 2008 saw him release his long awaited debut album 'Uniting Music'. Ralph's Vocal mix kicks off with subtle beats and a bouncy bassline loop that underpins the whole track, guitar like sounds get twisted and turned in and out in the background before funking up a notch, its all melds together with some classic keys and a catchy, and relatively tough in comparison, bassline before the muffled looped lyrics slowly build anticipation and then spring into verse with a hooky chorus that's sounds like its coming from the coolest gospel choir around, add to that the 70's mission impossible-esque like keys and you get a song that is just damn cool. The music is subtle and well crafted; add the vocals and ultimately GUM has produced a powerful piece that eschews visions of speeding down the freeway, top down, while the gospel divas belt out tunes from the backseat before you pull up on the beach and party till sundown. This track achieves the very cool sound of summer and is definitely gonna be hot this season. Ralph Gum also offers up a Dub Mix a deep atmospheric late night version that leaves you hanging for the vocals, but when they do drop you get a well rounded dancefloor filler for those later sets.
