Bundle only version - with Andy Daniell mix In collaboration with the Faya Combo label, Defected have put together a collection of some of the seminal self-produced tracks from DJ Gregory's long and illustrious career. 1. Damelo An invigorating party record incorporating catchy horns, creative percussive elements and a dynamic energy throughout. Embracing rolling kick drums and Latin-infused vocal interjections, 'Damelo' is House music eclecticism at it's finest and most creative. 2. Attend 1 Proving that brashness and breakdowns are by no means necessary to produce an impact record, the subtle pads and understated bassline of 'Attend 1' result in a record that is as evocative as it is infectious. Eerie effects combine with a simple yet effective synth line to produce a timeless, old-skool gem of track. 3. Afromobile Here, DJ Gregory's talents for drum programming are superbly demonstrated; simple yet devastating effective, they lead the track throughout while skilfully complimenting the jazzy, deep and tech-House elements throughout. 4. Klappa With more of an electronic vibe than a typical DJ Gregory production, 'Klappa' launches itself from another planet and hits you squarely between the eyes. Alien effects, random bleeps and organic clicks mingle with spaced out pads, resulting in a truly original rave anthem '“ an emphatic testament to the breadth of his production abilities. 5. Sookoos As off-the-wall as the name suggests 'Sookoos', starts out sparse, with sketchy hi-hats and broken drums lines leading the way, before slowly developing in to a House/Samba hybrid of epic proportions. 6. Don't Know Malendro Heading squarely along a funky, disco tip Malendro is yet another example of DJ Gregory's versatility. Lively bass-licks and 70's-eque effects and synths inject some Soul into the proceedings, while the drums are typically creative yet vastly accessible. 7. Solaris The beats on 'Solaris' are so well put together it's difficult to believe they were programmed rather than performed live, and when something sounds this good, why mess with? Gregory keeps things simple with a deeply groovy bassline, a short guitar riff and a melodic, string-laden break, and lets his drums do the talking. 8. S2 'S2' is a filtered more dynamic peak-time version of the previous track, with the same grooving bass and a few more shrieking synths thrown to increase the cadence. 9. Tropical Soundclash A truly inspired moment. Both the dubby, wobbling bassline and the chanted vocal get inside your head and refuse to leave. Get you head down and lose yourself in this energetic, tribally infused stomper. 10. Elle (Frankie Feliciano Re-edit) A stunning track complimented by a delicate remix, this is arguably DJ Gregory's finest moment. Pounding drums, graceful guitars, redolent strings and a simple yet superbly delivered hook are combined along with an awesome energy to make this one of the finest records ever produced. 11. Joberg Theme The high tempo, driving bass and piercing hi-hats of 'Joberg Theme' belie a definite techno influence upon the production. The track is mellowed by lusciously warm pads and deep percussion, and could just as equally be the soundtrack to a leisurely sunset as to a frenetic sunrise. 12. And Quirky and sexy, pounding and choppy, 'And' delivers in more ways than one. Lead by an erratic hi-hat and a sweeping, metallic pad, it rounds off this stunning collection of tracks in style.
