PR Manager
The Role:
• With responsibility for Defected’s external media communications, the Publicist’s role is to produce highly effective and innovative communications campaigns across specific projects and manage our media profile according to strategic business goals across the full range of print and digital media.
Key Role Objectives:
• Develop the label’s communications strategy through regular planning and review opportunities
• Maintain and project through all communications a cohesive brand identity and message for Defected and its artists
• Drive brand profile across our full range of activities including music releases, events and key PR themes throughout relevant media types
• Run creative artist campaigns across all relevant media types
• Use content created internally to drive promotion and marketing for the brand, artists, music releases and events, ensuring that it is promoted effectively to maximise exposure and audience
• Develop new and innovative angles and ‘stories’ across all campaigns
• Maintain ongoing presence within international specialist dance and general music media as well as mainstream consumer and business media
• Broaden audience reach via a defined strategy to secure coverage in mainstream/lifestyle media and new digital platforms
• Cultivate relationships with relevant journalists and bloggers across all relevant media types
• Develop effective new communications channels including Social Media to distribute or syndicate content and communicate our messages
• Keep informed about media landscape and technological developments, ensuring a future facing PR strategy
Key Responsibilities:
• Produce comprehensive media plans for key projects
• Execute media plans and generate relevant creative tools and assets such as biographies, press releases, audio/visual tools and commission / manage photoshoots etc.
• Devise questions and interview artists for Defected Media content
• Ensure communications content is approved by management and artists where relevant
• Oversee promotion of all in house content via blogs and social networks
• Attend key media and company events in the UK and internationally as required
• Develop and maintain media contacts database and relationships
• Provide weekly press coverage report as well as individual project reports
Key Skills/Experience:
• A thorough understanding of today’s media landscape including international specialist music press, mainstream consumer media, business media as well as social media
• Bachelors degree in Communications, PR, Journalism or a related field
• Minimum of 4+ years of relevant PR experience
• Proven success in implementing media campaigns (incl. social media)
• Proven success in securing media coverage in a variety of outlet types
• Proven track record of developing successful working relationships with journalists and bloggers (references required)
• An impeccable network of media contacts
• Experience in developing successful creative consumer campaigns
• Excellent written and oral communication skills (samples required)
• Ability to manage multiple projects and demands at a time
• Excellent writing skills, with a high level of attention to detail
• Strong interpersonal skills, ability to develop effectives relationships and communicate across a broad team
• Experience working closely with senior executives and all members of a team
• Passion for dance music and very knowledgeable about the genre in which we work
NB: This role will require some out of hours and weekend work and international travel
