Soma Celebrates 20 Years

Revered underground dance label Soma will release a special three-disc compilation this September to celebrate its 20th anniversary.

Slam’s Stuart McMillan and Orde Meikle launched the imprint in 1991 after the success of their Soma club night in Glasgow alongside techno ‘baron’ Dave Clarke. Classic releases followed from the likes of Daft Punk, Funk D’Void, Silicone Soul and, of course, Slam – a number of which feature on the first disc of Soma Records – 20 Years.

Unmixed, disc one includes Daft Punk’s peppy remix of Scott Grooves featuring Parliament’s super soulful Mothership Reconnection next to Silicone Soul’s Right On, Right On and Sharkimaxx’s (AKA Felix Da Housecat) Clashback. Discs two and three are mixed by Slam and Silicone Soul respectively, featuring a number of key cuts by the aforementioned artists as well as H-Foundation, Loco Dice, Mark Henning and Desert Storm.

Soma Records – 20 Years is released September 19.
