Seventies disco dons Chic – the New York collective who, under Nile Rodgers and Bernard Edwards’ leadership, recorded several global hit singles including Le Freak and Everybody Dance, will headline next year’s Playground Weekender in Australia; an increasingly important stop on the ‘alternative music’ calendar.
Running March 2-4 at Sydney’s Del Rio Riverside Resort (by Wisemans Ferry) the Weekender also promises plenty of electronic action. Berlin’s Modeselektor are confirmed as are Art Department, Damian Lazarus, Hudson Mohawke and downtempo legends The Orb.
Elsewhere, there are spots for UNKLE Sounds, relatively local dubsters Fat Freddys Drop (they’re from New Zealand) and unique British rapper Roots Manuva.
Further names will be announced in the coming weeks; check www.playgroundweekender.com.au for updates.
