Rupert Parkes, AKA producer Photek, is the latest clubland name to take on !K7’s highly impressionable DJ-Kicks series.

Photek’s mix reflects his current bass-driven and house-edged tastes, well away from the intelligent drum & bass sounds with which he regaled audiences in the 1990s. “It’s music with some atmosphere” he explains. “It’s introspective. I imagined that this would be the mixtape that you listen to later on – after the club.”

Track selections include Guy J & Miriam Vaga’s deep, epic houser (for Bedrock) No Under But You, Sepalcure’s quirkily melodic, dubstep-house bomb Taking You Back; there is also a raft of Photek productions, such as Azymuth, No Agenda and DJ-Kicks exclusive Fountainhead (alongside Kuru).

The album is due for release April 3.
