Alex Paterson of The Orb is releasing a new album, with assistance from Pink Floyd guitar legend Dave Gilmour.

The new set is called Metallic Spheres and is due out on October 4 through Columbia.

The album is split into two 'movements', the 'metallic' side and the 'spheres' side.

Paterson's connection with the Pink Floyd man came about after he worked on a charity project with him and lauded producer Youth. Gilmour then provided an extended guitar jam which Paterson has threaded through his new set.

The album is being released in the usual formats, but with one disc having been recorded in 3D60 sound, a technique co-created by Youth.
