Uniquely deep Detroit houser Alton Miller has confirmed the release of his new studio album Light Years Away for November 15.
Light Years Away will appear on rated Canadian label Mixed Signals, whose regular output of quality underground jazz, funk and disco says much about Miller’s agenda. Most of the 14 tracks feature guest vocalists and performers – namely, the likes of Abacus, Amp Fiddler and Angela Tarrant. Influences include Motown, George Clinton and Frankie Knuckles.
Miller’s career is already long and distinguished. He rose to prominence during the heady Detroit dance days of the 1980s and 1990s, and has recorded for key labels including Planet E and Peacefrog, as well as alongside Chez Damier and Inner City legend Kevin Saunderson.
