Air are set to release a new album in the spring.

La Voyage Dans La Lune, or A Trip to the Moon, has been written as a companion piece to the pivotal 1902 film of the same name by French director George Melies. The first film to take on the theme of science fiction, it is considered to be one of the most important in film history.

A hand-coloured print of the film was discovered in 1993, and after many years of restoration, the French producers were asked to put together a new soundtrack for it for the 2011 Cannes Film Festival.

Said Nicolas Godin: “'A Trip to the Moon' is undoubtedly more organic than most of our past projects. We wanted it to sound handmade, knocked together, a bit like Méliès' special effects.

 "Everything is played live … like Méliès' film, our soundtrack is nourished by living art.”

It features vocals from Au Revoir Simone and Beach House singer Victoria Legrand.

The result, La Voyage Dans La Lune, will now drop on February 6.
