Headlines
The summer has landed: 24 blissed out summer drenched summer anthems have just arrived on the latest Beach House album. Artists include Tyree Cooper, Afro Medusa, Wes Clarke, Doug Willis, Lisa Shaw, Rasmus Faber and Hed Kandi favourite No Halo. Best way to listen to this album is either with the roof down on your car cruising around, or sitting with a nice cold beer chilling in the garden in the sun.
Anyway down to the album, disc one kicks off with Marcella Feat I-Fan. This is a beautiful record with a fantastic vocal, no better way to open an album. Torvill & Dean featuring Tyree Cooper are up next with an equally brilliant vocal workout, a slightly more deeper affair tho. One of Hed Kandi’s main men Wez Clarke also is featured on this disc with Maxine Hardcastle on a track entitled Bringing Me Back, the keys and live sax and percussion on this set it apart from the rest. One of the most respected House labels in the world Defected are featured as well, Daniel Bovie & Roy Rox are up with the massive Love Me track, this will be one of the of the tracks of the summer. Its disco time with Mr Doug Willis and Spread Love, so much energy rammed into such a little track, this will really make you get up and shake that ass. Tribal sounding beats and catchy piano loops is the only way I can describe the track from Identity, this is strangely similar to Afro Medusa and Pasilda from many years ago. Deepness all over for Jazz It Up by Dutchian Soul, awesome Saxophone with that spoken word which works so well on may tracks, especially this one. Hed Kandi favourite No Halo supply us with the latest offering that is What Is This Feeling, complete opposite to Put Your Hands On but still as effective. DJ Lazz remix of I’ve Changed by Thomas Toccafondi is finally up on this disc, yet again very deep track with strong vocal.
Disc two has a lot to live up too but its starts with the ever brilliant Lisa Shaw, as far as Deep, Soulful House goes you can’t go much wrong than to include Lisa Shaw somewhere on the compilation. She yet again delivers with a very catchy track. Afterlife are back again with another strong vocal led track, this has to be one of Afterlife’s finest tracks I have heard to date. Soulbasics feat Kyla Sexton and Out Of Time continue with the fine music on this second disc, this disc just gets better the more you listen to it. Rasmus Faber from Farplane recording supplies more of the sun drenched sound track with slighty more downtempo Everything is alright. Bargrooves recordings offer up Hollis P Monroe and This Way, this is a very well produced track that has a very Everything But The Girl feel to it. The cd gets stepped up a gear and moving a bit more with Candy Apple, still in the same vein as the disc but with that subtle bit more energy. Now we are getting more into the disc and Hot Spring’s slap you around the chops with Leaving You, big piano track. The slapping around the face continues with Leggaz Feat Stephanie, a slightly more tougher tribal edge on La La La, this is a little more Deep boarding on Tech, but with a Spanish guitar. Lucien Foort is up next with the Stereo Sushi release The Shame, this track has always been well received and will no doubt continue to do so.
If you are planning on sunbathing, chilling out or having a bbq this year then this is the cd for you, it really is sun-drenched summer listening.(Antony Angell)
