Reelsoul & Alix Alvarez - BOM (R2) [SOLE Channel Music]

Currently getting some serious props from the deep-tech crew – Steve Bug, Dyed Soundroom, Jimpster, Seth Troxler and Charles Webster to name but a few - Reelsoul & Alix Alvarez’s ‘Bom (R2)’ nicely bridges the gap between warm, bouncy house and the slightly darker, more twisted side of the genre. The Main mix kicks off with a big, deep, dubby vibe before building to a crescendo of stabbing vocals and skittering hi-hats. There’s a powerful energy to it that drags you along for the ride and includes some seriously tight production, especially at the top end of the track.

The dub takes it into techier territory by chopping up the bassline and brining it bubbling into the forefront of the mix. It’s an highly infectious groove and probably a stronger version that the previous mix; the patience with which it builds around that b-line ultimately rewarded by the addition of off-key percussion, plunging keys and the omnipresent female vocal, but used more sparingly than the previous mix. The first track to be recorded and released together by these two producers, let’s hope for more of the same soon.
