Justin Michael & Secret Soul - Celebration Of Music (Hermosa Records)

Headlines
Justin Michael teams up with England’s Secret Soul and together they have produced a truly outstanding piece of funky, soulful house. The original mix is particularly good, with keys similar to those of Rasmus Faber. The bass is deeply funky and the vocal is sublime. There’s a huge selection of remixes to choose from here, so take a deep breath... Born To Funk have provided a really funky, almost Warren Clarke-style remix, great for the funky floors. Conan from Liquid People has gone down a darker, more electronic route, delivering a Ferrer-style remix which uses the vocal to fine effect with its bad-ass bassline. Random Soul’s version is a funky affair with some added background synth sounds. Yogi & Husky’s Peaktime Dub mix contains a selection of those huge synths . The Balage remix is a warm, soulful, percussive take with a full vocal performance. Steven Stone has gone down the soulful route, and as well as his vocal mix he’s delivered a very cool Reprise. The cream of the remixes here comes from Duffnote’s Richard Earnshaw, whose vocal and dub mixes will satisfy whether in the bar or the club. (Colin Sales)
