Hed Kandi Presents Kandi Lounge
Album number 86 in the Hed Kandi collection and its Kandi Lounge that steps up to the mark. As it’s mentioned on the cd case you are recommended to turn the lights down low and pull back your window curtain and enjoy this double album with 23 alternative blessed out grooves. This cd is ideal for those stay at home nights with a bottle or 2 of wine and some friends around, or getting ready to dancing your socks off at a Hed Kandi night. Some of the stand out tracks on the first disc include the Pilooski Re-Edit of Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons, which has an old vinyl feel to it. Everyone knows this track and what a better way to start the new album. Soopasoul and Brand Nu has an almost Jazz feel to it with plenty of percussion and a lovely saxophone. Another track which never seems to go away is T-Ski Valley and Catch The Beat the Dimi & Mousse T Old School Mix, very old school sounding rap along the lines of Rappers Delight but with a bit more funk for good measure. The Super Phonics and Dial L For Love is 4 minutes 40 of pure disco-infused pleasure, think bass guitars and a sexy vocal and a track that makes you smile with some 70s sounding effects that wouldn’t go amiss on Buck Rogers. Fred Falke has two outstanding remixes on this disc, mix one is on Lykke Li and Im Good Im Gone. This is exactly what you would expect for a Fred Falke production, strong French bass line and a vocal which has the same feel to it as Brother Brown – Under The Water. Next up Mr Falke gets hold of Kish Mauve and Lose Control and yet again he delivers another lesson in French music, awesome French filters and a vocal to die for. Next up disc two and ex Moloko singer Rosin Murphy on fine form with Let Me Know. This track is in its original form which strips it back to pure vocal and a head nodding beat. Where would a Hed Kandi album be without Joey Negro, this time under his Sunburst Band guise but remixing the track himself and what a fine job he has done. David Bowie has never sounded so good. Reel People deliver another slice of Nu Jazz which has to be one of the stand out tracks on this album. The album explores another side to Hed Kandi, it just goes to show that such a versatile brand can constantly deliver quality release after release. Pre bar or after hours this album is ideal, so get those drinks out and enjoy! (Antony Angell)
