Donnacha Costello – Colorseries (Minimise)

Headlines
Dublin producer Donnacha Costello released 10 tracks in quick succession back in 2004, all with colour-coded names and all through his own label, Minimise. Astoundingly, this rapid output was achieved without the assistance of computers – Costello recorded the tracks live, on analogue equipment. Not only must he bestow the patience of a saint, he is also, by this evidence and much since, sickeningly, fiercely talented. Now released for the first time on CD (thanks to Kompakt's distribution channels) the Colorseries will bring itself to a wider audience and there is no more deserving a collection of music. Lush, gorgeously-produced, haunting and frequently trance-inducing, this veers from pulsing, sweaty club tracks to Vangelis-esque soundscapes. Electronic music rarely reaches such levels of perfection. This is an important album. (Ben Arnold)
