It's only when you start to reflect that you realise the impressive body of work proffered by Hamburg's DJ Koze. This retrospective, taking in his finest work from 2001 to the present, lays it bare, in all its rich and textured (and at times certifiable) glory.
From the sublimely wonky 'Broken CD Mix' of Wechsel Garland's Mutes to the frankly gorgeous mix of Heiko Voss's Think About You, this is, in many places, blisteringly wonderful. His version of Ben Watt's Guinea Pig seems to pay no heed the usual template of the remix, with its Detroit percussion flying in and out, while noises (and answerphone messages) possibly beamed from space fly in and out without warning.
Then there's his take on Matthew Dear's Elementary Lover a genuinely insane yet fiercely original mash of gentle disco and freaked out lyricism. In a world of formulaic rhythms and digital plagiarism, we need mavericks like DJ Koze more than ever. (Ben Arnold)
