Ahead of the release of Bargrooves Summer Sessions Deluxe, mixer and compiler Andy Daniell gives us his take on some of the standout tracks from the compilation...
Ray Foxx – The Trumpeter
What a record. This looks set to be tune of the summer so it would have been rude not to include it on a summer compilation. This record has had unprecedented support across the board from people like Annie Mac, Pete Tong, Trevor Nelson, Zane Lowe, basically all of Radio 1..haha. That always tends to be a good sign! Oh, and as the title suggests it includes Trumpets, lovely trumpets.
Marvin Zeyss – Next To You (Maya Jane Coles Remix)
Maya Jane Coles is someone who for me just can’t do wrong at the moment. She’s got the most incredible vibe & she’s just killed this remix for Marvin Zeyss. Haunting vocals over rich warm production, I just LOVE this record so much!
Classixx – Into The Valley (Julio Bashmore Remix)
I was worried I wasn’t going to able to get this record on this compilation for a while as it’s on a record label owned by Mountain Dew, as you do. But I’m so glad it made it. Julio Bashmore is on fire at the moment. His Battle For Middle You is a bomb and he rocks the same kind of fat ass 808 bass hits on this record. Add Classixx’s incredible song on top and you have a truly stunning record.
Storm Queen – Look Right Through (Vocal Mix)
This is a record that has been for a minute but I think some people might have missed it 1st time round. Storm Queen is a new guise for Morgan Geist who you may know better as 50% of Metro Area. For me Look Right Through is a truly beautiful piece of music. It’s like a modern soul record, full of funk, soul & feeling. It feels really timeless to me. I love it.
Bit Funk – She’s Got Two Hearts
Bit Funk is this incredibly talented producer from Brooklyn & I don’t know if there is something in the water there but damn there is some find music & disco coming out of there at the moment with producers like Bit Funk, Treasure Fingers, Jacques Renault & the Fools Gold camp. This record sounds like a classic French house sample track that might have been on Crydamoure or something like that, but it’s a totally original record. Awesome track.
Youandewan – 1988 (Jimpster Remix)
Youandewan is a very clever, talented & diverse producer from Leeds. 1988 in its original form is an epic Balearic anthem. It’s a record I had in my iTunes for ages & kept coming back to. The always on form Jimpster delivers his twist on this record & keeps it on the Balearic vibe. Perfect record for a lazy summer’s day.
Kaine feat. Kathy Diamond – Love Saves The Day (Jacques Renault Remix)
I mentioned Jacques Renault before as one of these increidble new breed of disco don’s coming out of NYC melting pot & he lends his vibe to the already awesome Love Saves The Day. For me its Jacques finest remix since his Midnight Magic mix, he doesn’t reinvent the wheel, he just tweeks what needs to be tweaked and adds a dose of magic.
Pitto – Where Is My Soul Now
Pitto is a dope Dutch producer who just dropped an album that is well worth check on Joris Voorn’s Green record label. This is a track off that album amd a stunning song. You never quite know what you are going to get from Pitto, but I always think whatever you do get is worth the wait.
Rene Et Gaston – Merluche Ideale
Rene Et Gaston, you might know them better as Chocolate Puma. These guys are two of the nicest most talented people in dance music & I was recently working on their House Master’s compilation & this track really stood out to me as perfect for a summer’s day. I just love the guitar riff. This is an older track as well so it just shows how ahead of their time these guys are/were.
Bargrooves Summer Sessions Deluxe is available now from iTunes and D Store
