Ray Foxx - Latest News

A lot’s changed since we last spoke to Ray Foxx. ‘The Trumpeter’ has morphed into ‘La Musica’, he’s broken his Ibiza cherry and the record’s support at places like Radio 1 has gone through the roof. Now, in the week that the official release of ‘The Muscia (The Trumpeter)’ finally drops we thought it would be a good time to catch up for a quick chat about what’s new in the world of the Foxx…

Since we last spoke, a lot’s happened with ‘The Trumpeter’…tell us about its new incarnation as ‘La Musica’…

I wrote 'The Trumpeter' originally as an instrumental piece of music, but over time the idea of a vocal turned into something that needed to be tried. Luckily I had already been working with Lovelle and after playing her the tune and seeing her reaction I knew that she would be more than capable of doing it justice. The only problem was 'where is the space on the track for a vocal?', but then we landed on La Musica - something which I think mirrors the feel of the track in a big way!

What has Lovelle been like to work with?

Brilliant! She is determined and isn't afraid to try new things. I always look forward to working with her!

You and Lovelle recently played in Ibiza for the first time…tell us about the experience…

Loved every moment of it! It was so much better than I expected. The people are great and the partying is uncompromisingly non-stop!! It is amazing to go out there and DJ in a place like Ushuaia, but incredible to perform live of one of your tracks. One of the highlights was missing my plane and being forced to stay there another day!!

You’ve also been playing more DJ gigs…tell us which records typically make it into your sets…

I like to play whatever is good, not necessary what is popular at that moment in time. Last time I played I started with an unofficial remix of 'The Trumpeter' by a friend of mine - made specifically to open my set with - and I finished with an unreleased song of mine code named 'Ra Ra Ra'. This is one of my favourite pieces of work actually! I also have some exclusive things that I'm testing out for a few people, which are going down really well.

What’s been the nicest thing that anyone’s said you to about ‘The Trumpeter’ over the last few months?

There have been so many amazing comments from people about the track. A recent one on Twitter was “The Trumpeter on repeat louder than my neighbours would like” which made me smile!

There have also been some dubstep remixes that seem to have impressed a number of people…what’s your experience of dubstep? Do you experiment with the genre?

Great remixes! Listened to a lot of garage growing up and love the 135bpm+ tempo. There is a lot you can do with 140bpm (ish) that is unique to that tempo. I think it is a special tempo and I think that the dubstep scene over here is something that the UK can be very proud of! As for me and producing more music around 140bpm? Let's see - never say never!

The full release package of the record drops next week…what are your hopes for it?

I'm just so happy at the way things have gone so far and anything beyond that is the icing on the cake for me. But obviously I want the record to go as far as it possibly can!

Anything else you’d like to tell us about..?

I'm back in the studio and I hope to answer that question shortly! Until then, thanks to everyone out there who has supported 'The Trumpeter' and 'La Musica' and my career so far!
