Exclusive sets from other Junior Boy’s Own artists will follow: this is the label’s only residency set to take place in London.
Admission for the launch is free.
Junior Boy’s Own is one of the most important British dance labels of the acid house era, established in 1990 by Terry
Farley, Andy Weatherall, Steve Maize and Cymon Eckles. Originally a fanzine going by the title of Boy’s Own, the
publication was the distillation of several years’ growing disenchantment with the popular culture bibles of the day. Combining football, music and fashion and featuring what were later perceived to be seminal articles by then underground DJs such as Paul Oakenfold, the team behind Boy’s Own suddenly found themselves catapulted into a wide music
scene.
As a result of the industry’s incompatibility with, and inability to understand the artistic direction of the quartet, Junior Boy’s Own was established as an independent house record label. It acted as an outlet for the various productions and acts which weren’t garnering interest from any major labels, and yet were undeniably forming around Boy’s Own.
To date, Junior Boy’s Own has represented the Chemical Brothers and Underworld to name but a few: the original
members have been involved with acclaimed projects including Primal Scream’s Screamadelica and X-Press 2, who
have recently enjoyed global success with ‘Lazy’ featuring David Byrne.
