Defected In The House at Pacha just keeps getting better and better!
Tonight’s massive line-up is The Shapeshifters and ATFC, both of whom are just as excited about getting on the decks for tonight’s shindig and the thousands of people packed into Pacha re about hearing them play. The Shapes enter the booth and celebrate their arrival with their booze of choice, Sambuca. Sambuca is a bit of a Marmite drink; you either love it or hate it, but I love Marmite so it’s all good!
After a couple (read half a dozen) shots The Shapes take to the decks building their set slowly (they say the best things come to those who wait) as it's not too long before we are jumping around to the massive Prok and Fitch remix of Todd Terry ‘Something Going On’ as the massive smoke machine blasts the excitable Pacha crowd. Time for another Sambuca methinks!! The Shapes are loving it and judging by the amount of people in and around the booth so is everyone else and they bring their three hour set to a close with J T Vanelli’s classic remix of Space 2000 ‘Do You Wanna Funk’, which goes off on the break down.
ATFC heads to the booth and I ask him if managed to get a sleep in before his set? In reply he points to a group of his mates who are bouncing off the walls...that’s a no, then. It's the first time I've seen ATFC play and he impresses both technically and musically. Putting the Pacha sound system through its paces he ups the tempo and goes a bit deeper, dropping his own tracks amongst the modern classic Rej before building into Donna Summer’s ultimate disco stomper ‘I Feel Love’, which definitely deserves another toast (or is that just an excuse for another Sambuca!?)
Monday’s are all about Cocoon in Ibiza. The islands is in full-on party mode by now, especially judging by the large queues of cars pulling into Amnesia for its flagship night which we manage to somehow bypass with a cheeky manoeuvre and end up leaving the car in a staff car park. As we walk to the entrance the queue is ridiculous and the door is mobbed, another manoeuvre is required and we somehow blag our way into the club via the back door and entry directly into the madness via the VIP balcony!
The place is absolutely mobbed with about 4000 people dancing on the terrace to tonight’s headliners Martin Butrich and Loco Dice while the main room sees lord of techno Sven Vath oversee proceedings. But tonight everybody is squeezed onto the terrace anxiously waiting for the new king of techno Loco Dice. We get straight involved to and head downstairs to the dance floor; the terrace is totally rammed – a sea of people dancing in any space they can find – and the production is really impressive with huge illuminated jellyfish hanging above which bob and bounce to Martin Buttrich live set.
Martin Buttrich is an amazing producer; his tracks never fail and it's great to hear them being performed on such a big scale as the terrace. Loco Dice then hits the decks and it's easy to see why he's top of his game, tonight he plays a little tougher than usual but it goes down a storm as he smashes the terrace to bits. I think I’ll be paying a visit to this place again very soon but next time I plan to take a shed load of cash, the drinks are not cheap…13 euro's for a Budweiser? Flaming nora!
