Bex's Ibiza Blog: The Diversity of Disco

In the last 2 days I have seen Kylie Minogue, Craig Richards &  Seth Troxler back to back on the decks and been transported back to the 60’s, all on the same small party island.

The Swedish House Mafia have surpassed themselves this time around by bringing the one and only Kylie Minogue over to Ibiza to perform at Pacha. I found it hard keeping my mouth shut in the few days leading up to the party about who the special guest was but on Monday it was announced via Twitter that it would be Kylie! We got down to Pacha to be met by a huge queue of course but luckily we got straight in. I could not believe how busy it was! We had to see her so I pulled my friends and I through a very annoyed crowd and headed towards the absolutely packed staircase. A couple of steps down and we all had a perfect view of the one and only Kylie dressed like a Greek goddess singing to the most packed Pacha I have ever seen. She was in the middle of her entourage of dancers and underneath a specially made light-up Kylie sign. It was incredible and I felt very lucky to be part of it. She seemed genuinely taken aback and like she was having as good a time as everyone else.

After the screams died down she thanked everyone and was escorted off the stage by a tonne of security and back to the depths of Pacha where only people like Kylie Minogue get to go! It really was a special night and after that everyone was in the ultimate party mood. The terrace was positively rocking with an eclectic mix of tunes and had turned into an extension of the dancefloor for the night. Mad to think I had been in DC10 watching Seth Troxler and Craig Richards closing the main room just a few hours before!

Waking up on Tuesday afternoon wasn’t an easy task and being asked by my accomplice Anna what I was going to wear for that night’s Flower Power, I wasn’t filled with much excitement. However, I had not experienced Flower Power before and knowing that all my friends were going meant I couldn’t be the one with the least partying stamina, so it was time to choose my ‘costume’. I finally got some use out of my child’s traditional Moroccan lace coat and added my peace sign necklace, a headband and some flowers and I was good to go! Luckily all of this is in fashion, especially in Ibiza so there isn’t much excuse not to dress up!

Another huge queue outside Pacha and it already looked brilliant! Everyone was dressed up and in the mood to party like it was 1969! In we walked and Pacha looked like another world! There were stalls selling flower headdresses, incense wafting past our noses and colourful drapes above our heads. It felt as though we were at what I would like to imagine Woodstock was like. In the main room I couldn’t believe my eyes at the production and dancers! It was a psychedelic dream all to a soundtrack of recognisable 60’s and 70’s songs. Every half an hour or so something else mad would happen from ‘John & Yoko’ coming through the dancefloor on a white bed to being moved out the way so a motorbike could come through. It was unreal! To anyone reading this you may be visioning a cheesy retro night at home but trust me, there was absolutely nothing cheesy about this. A lot of time and thought has been put into this night and if this is what my parents experienced when they were younger then I am insanely jealous!

Dragging myself away at 5am wasn’t easy but it was back to reality for me and time to contemplate the last 48 hours which have been my best yet in Ibiza. I know Ibiza has a lot to offer but I didn’t quite realise it could get this diverse in such a short space of time. Me encanta Ibiza!
