With such an amazing season last year, Swedish House Mafia (Angello, Axwell and Ingrosso) had to make this season even bigger and better so this opening party was one I was very interested in. Arriving at the club Pacha’s Mark Netto greeted me simply  with a mysterious and knowing, “enjoy”. By now I’d had enough of all of this anticipation! Something very special was going on and I wanted to know what...



Inside the club neon signs instructed me to do things; ‘check in’ and then ‘masks on please’ before finally one saying ‘Masquerade Ballroom’. I have ARRIVED! I stand in amazement for a while…and then a while longer as I can’t move for the sea of bouncing people. I look and see masked, glitterball mannequins hanging above me and very sexy Swedish House Mafia branded iron candelabras. It’s 2am – surely they’re not going to fit anyone else in?! AN21 is on the decks (Angello’s little brother) who is going for it as much as the crowd are, plus he’s not bad looking ;).

About 5 minutes later I have squished myself through every gap possible between people and arrive around the back of the DJ booth. It is full of girls unsurprisingly and just as I’m thinking they won’t fit anyone else is a group of long legged, big boobed girls start towards me, closely followed by Erick Morillo and a matching group of girls behind him – no less than 8 altogether! Through the rope and into the DJ booth but clearly not enough room for all these ladies so it’s back to their front table in the VIP for more champagne.



The music is a mix between well-known house tracks and dance remixes of popular songs of the moment. This mix works well as everyone cheers when each song is brought in and no-one stops dancing. The dancefloor resembles a mosh-pit and some people are literally passing out in all the heat and excitement. I go to take a breather myself and find Pete Gooding on the terrace who asks me if I have sunburn as my arms are so hot…“No, I’ve just been in there!”


Back out just in time for the big show just as the 3 Mafia Kings hit the decks. A lit-up key is the background for 6 beautiful, individually high-fashion clad Pacha dancers all taking their positions beside a giant disco ball hanging from the ceiling which a cloaked female then mounts. Off we go! The music is building up just as the disco ball plus dancer swings out over the crowd back and forth. The other lace-clad, nipple-tassled, bell-boy hat wearing dancers pout away, with every boy in the room looking up at them wishing they had them to deliver luggage to their room.



Lost in the show and mayhem around me I am shocked back to reality with fireworks going off all around me; the candelabras are shooting them out, they are going off on the stage, in the DJ box and everyone is screaming. Sirens are going and the ice-cannons are firing. And all this to one of the biggest tunes of the night; the Swedes' own 'One' which judging by the reaction it got is going to be mindblowingly big this season! It really wasone of those moments that make you go WOW! I can honestly predict that this is the best night of about 90% of these people’s lives.

The place carries on jumping and the energy doesn’t drop...I’m off home but could easily stay and this party could go on and on and on. See you next Monday Swedish House Mafia...I cannot wait!
