Beachclubbing Pacific - Tracknotes

Ahead of the release of Beachclubbing: Pacific, mixer and selector Andy Daniell talks us through some of the choice cuts featured on the compilation, including current Beatport No.1 Miguel Campbell’s ‘Something Special’ and a world exclusive from two mystery producers from Bristol.

Miguel Campbell – Something Special
This is an awesome record from Leeds based Miguel Campbell coming from Jamie Jones & Lee Foss’s on-form Hot Natured records. This record was hard as nails to find over the summer, but the hype on it was right up there so I was incredibly happy get this cleared for the compilation. Since it’s been released it’s actually gone to No.1 on Beatport. I’m so happy to see a record like this sell well. Musically it’s a stunning, simple song with a killer bassline and sometimes that all you need.

Maceo Flex – Falling
Maceo Plex is a producer who for me at the moment can do no wrong. An ex-native of Miami and now based in Valencia he’s really been killing it with recent releases on Crosstown Rebels and this track ‘Falling’ on Visionquest. It’s a hard record to describe, disco elements, warm analogue and an incredible vocal sample. Love this record!

MK – Burning (Round Table Knights Remix)
This is a straight up seminal record for me. That classic MK riff with that vocal just does it for me and the original has never felt fresher. It takes something special to remix a record like this, so step forward the ever awesome Round Table Knights. They’ve taken the riff and twisted it up in a great way with their trademark false drop that sends the crowd crazy every time.

Luca C & Brigante – Different Morals

I first came across this record at the start of the summer on a Lee Foss mix and it stuck in my head. Again, it’s a pretty simple record with infectious bassline and a stunning vocal from the on form Ali Love. There are some awesome remixes of this record as well that are also well worth checking.

Loaded Dice – It’s Alright
I love this record. It’s the lead track off a two track EP forthcoming on Lo:Rise records, so it’s a world exclusive for the compilation. Loaded Dice are two mystery producers from Bristol which is a real hotbed of talent at the moment with producers like Julio Bashmore, Eats Everything and Waifs & Strays. Who knows, one of these producers might even be involved in Loaded Dice??? It’s an awesome track, with a great piano line, sneaky disco licks that just builds and builds. Awesome stuff.

Flight Facilities – Crave You (Cassian Remix)
Flight Facilities are a duo from down under that make great vocal, disco-esque records and this is the record that first brought them to my attention. As the record has been around for a year or so I wanted to dip into the remix package for a remix that was a bit under-appreciated in my humble opinion. Cassian just smashed this mix for me. Funky as hell!

Roy Davis Jr – Enjoy The Ride (James Talk & Ridney Remix)
This has been a huge record for me this summer. James Talk & Ridney are two producers that have been around for a while but are just going from strength to strength and I think this is their finest remix to date. Genius cut up synths, a brilliant vocal, superb filtering, oh yeah and a bassline that is reminiscent of Fred Falke at his very best. Played out, this record just never fails.

Eats Everything – Entrance Song
This is another big record from the summer and a firm favourite with DJs from Pete Tong to pretty much everything at DC10. “There is only one” goes the vocal with some old school synths before dropping to some heavy ass 808 tom action. This record really needs to be cranked to 11 to understand just how dope it is.

Ian Pooley – Organic
Ian Pooley is a legend in my eyes. He’s been making great records and remixes for as long as I can remember and this is another superb record. A great deep organ line just worked to perfection while the vocal samples just push the groove along perfectly.  Sonically it’s just so warm, great record.

Tuccillo – Sandbell
I’m a huge fan of Pacha’s Ibiza-dwelling resident Tuccillo. He’s an incredibly talented producer and is capable of really diverse productions. This particular track is awesome; great funky guitar line, a dope bell line, great vocal textures. It’s feels like the sun shining and that can never be a bad thing.
