This healthy volume is a full set of Boy’s Own, “the village newspaper of acid house.” Started by a bunch of cultural hooligans from Slough and Windsor (who grew up to be Terry Farley and Andy Weatherall among others) it gave a voice to the suburban soulboy and the “casual” culture of the terraces. Boy’s Own cheered and jeered at London clubland, reporting in hilarious detail as the snooty rare groove era was blown away by the freedoms of acid house. In passing, Boy’s Own also became world-famous DJs, sowed the seeds for “lad’s mag” journalism, founded a label that defined British house, invented raving in a field... and popularised the bouncy castle. There’s no better document of those crazy years.
