DJ, producer, broadcaster, founder of mobilee records and – most recently – mother; it’s fair to say that Anja Schneider isn’t shy of a bit of hard graft. Widely regarded as one of the world’s most respected DJs, Anja has travelled to almost every corner of the globe, making her mark at world-renowned clubs such as Fabric, Fuse, Rex, and Goa Madrid, as well as holding down residencies with Berlin’s Weekend and Watergate clubs.
For her In Their House mix, she lays down an hour of deep, throbbing, groove-led house and techno.
Enjoy…
In Their House #17 - Anja Schneider by Defected Records
How are you today?
I'm great thank you. I've had a good start to the New Year… no complaints.
How’s the new album coming along? With all the anticipation surrounding it, are you finding this tougher complete than your debut?
It’s quite difficult as my time is very limited. I became a mother five months ago and my wonderful little man has no interest in mummy's day job - let alone delivering an album.
Mobilee has gone from strength to strength in the last few years…what can we expect from the label in 2012?
We have many interesting projects this year for Mobilee. The first really exciting one is coming at the end of February with a new Mobilee ‘Back to Back' compilation from the wonderful Pan-Pot gents which will also include our first foray into film-making, a sixty minute DVD documenting their career, touring, their lives in and out of music etc. It’s incredible and we're really looking forward to the premiere that we will host on February 21st at a cinema here in Berlin. It will then be released as part of the back to back package. It’s one of the labels biggest projects to date.
Finances aside, what’s have you found to be the toughest thing about running your own label?
To keep everyone happy most of the time!
Tell us about the mix…how and where was it recorded?
I did it exclusively for Defected at home in December, just before leaving for family skiing holiday in Italy.
Are there any tracks from the mix in particular that you’d like to highlight?
They all deserve a nod.
Anything else you’d like to tell us about…?
The biggest event in my life is becoming a mother. It is the most wonderful thing that has happened to me and I am very lucky to be able to continue with my other passion, my work; as an artist and DJ… not sure though how I will explain it to him though! :-)
