2010 Already Eh?

My street is 3 ft under water because of global warming and Dub Step and UK Funky is the future .. well sort of . 'The one thing that surprises me is the fact that people are still surprised' - Bill Shankly said that and there’s a geezer who was always worth a quote.
No matter how you try and dress up underground music with any new genre name the simple fact is that its all just house anyway. Even the oldest offshoot Techno was really only House and it’s finest moments even today are the ones that retain the basic core principles of Chicago house music. Same as the UK Funky and Dub Step, i fully understand (as someone who has made up more than his fair share of daft new names for house's bastard children) that to keep the youth interested you have to let them believe that they themselves invented 'this thing' and that it had shit to do with the old folks who play HOUSE.
Hopefully some interesting collaborations may come out of Dub Step as it inches itself nearer the traditional 4 x 4 , maybe house producers will steal some of the ideas or vibes of the better stuff back and the sound will continual to re invent itself ... maybe by Easter well have a Dub Step / Wild Pitch anthem at 115 bpm that will become THE anthem at the WMC .. maybe

"So finally the book and CD are on the streets, its strange looking back at work you did so long ago, will it still stand up today, will the music and writing be relevant to today’s house kids? Listening to the music on the CD I’m certain it does stand up both in quality and as a snapshot of the building blocks of today’s scene. The book however is another kettle of fish altogether
Written during those heady and somewhat cloudy days its a look at exactly how the acid house scene was from the inside; the loves, the moans, the Monday to Wednesday blues and the Saturday night highs, its something we are all very proud to have been a part of.
JBO has some new music coming up, first is a amazing Spencer Parker re touch of Native Soul's 'New Day' a Dave Jarvis of Faith classic track, the actual mix SP has twisted is by Ashley Beadle and I’m told is huge at Secretsundaze for Giles Smith who is the only one with a copy at the moment..."

“Lots of stuff happening on the Boys Own front at last , the t shirts from Firmament arrived (well sold out in 2 hrs) and really nice they are as well , on the snug and pricey side i agree but we could all do with losing a bit of lumber and they look like they will last , the boys in Berlin are working on a re run which will take in different colorways and have a mix cd of Boys Own classics done by Rocky and myself , we are digging in the crates for the more soulful stuff played at Amnesia by Alfredo during the golden period of 87 - 89 .
The Boys Own book is in full swing at last , its being published and promoted by Frank and Bill at DJH , they have two fab books already on the go , currently on the shelves is 'The Disco Files' by Vince Aletti which takes in the NY disco dons weekly column that he wrote on the disco scene as it happened . Its a amazing book, a real time capsule of music that has become legendary all over the world, full of great pics and endless charts for the spotters and heads to get moist over. The second book is (not sure of the title yet) a collection of photos taken at the infamous slough centre a late 80s rave venue that became iconic for the younger second generation of clubbers . You might think a book of pics of sweaty pony tailed skinny ravers would be of limited interest but like 'The Disco Files' is a real life look at a brilliant time for club culture and the kids who got aboard at that time , you can almost smell the Amyl and sweat through the pages.
I know there’s been a million acid house reunions of late but we have given in to pressure and will be doing a one off Boys Own party in James Bailey's new ( still not open as i write) venue over London Bridge way , last Saturday in October - keep em peeled for info as well defo do tickets in advance.
Anyway stay lucky and clear of pig flu - im still suffering myself cant get rid of the rashers on my back whatever remedy I try. (OUCH)”
