Introduction

In today’s uncertain music climate it is not often that you hear of record labels being recreated. It all started with Strictly Rhythm and now two other historically important house labels follow suit; Sub-Urban and 4th Floor. So, what do Todd Terry, Tommy Musto, Victor Simonelli, Arnold Jarvis, Barbara Tucker and Jazz n’ Groove all have in common? In the years between 1987 and 2005 they all produced or recorded for either Sub-Urban or 4th Floor Records, two of House music’s most enduring Record Labels. Defected Records catalogue has grown considerably recently with a formidable collection of labels already under their belt. These include In The House, Fluential, Code Red and Strictly Rhythm. Now they can add the full back catalogue of Sub-Urban and 4th Floor to their portfolio with the intention to make all the classics available digitally for the first time online.
