Love the Way Interview

How's the year treating you so far? Anything exciting to report?

So far this year is looking good. We have a first solo release on Defected with 'Love The Way' and we’re working on a project with USA's C Reid who was the featured vocalist on the Smashing Sebastian track that ATFC remixed last year.  Our collaboration with Michael Gray and Rae will also be out this year, called ' You Will Remember'. On top of that we are working on another project for Nocturnal Groove and have just finished a track with Yasmeen for Strictly Rhythm called 'Rise'.

What were some of the highlights of last year for you?

Playing the Defected In The House events is great and it had been quite a break since the early parties at MOS back in the day, so it felt good to be back part of the team again. We also love the new Defected basement parties, particularly the Tensnake album launch…Arthur Bakers disco set was really inspiring.

As you say, this is your first solo release - remixes and collaborations aside - on Defected? Tell us a bit about the track?

The track incorporates elements of Dexter Wansel’s 'The Sweetest Pain', which is about as good as it gets for a classic piece of disco. The track’s been sampled before by Tom Middleton also (a house classic on Global Underground) and on top of that its our first solo release on Defected (pressure!), so we had to make sure we took the track in our own direction and hopefully we have achieved that.

Why - out of the many thousands of you could have borrowed from - did you chose to take the sample from this particular record?

Can't lie to you…this one was down to the big boss, so thanks for the idea Simon! Hope we have done it justice.

Do you think there's a danger when sampling a fairly well known record that the new version will always be compared to the original?

Our version is so far away from the original that hopefully that's not too much of an issue, The Crazy P mix is much more on the disco tip, but to be honest their version is so good I can’t imagine there will be a much of a problem from the purists.

Did you have any hand in selecting them as remixers?

No, but we’re massive fans, and it was a massive surprise. Really good Xmas present! Crazy P are so hot…how good is their remix!?!?!?

What else have you got going on at the moment?

D ‘n’ B fans should definitely check www.nutone.org - Dan Nu:Tone's new album 'Words & Pictures' is out on Hospital records in February and you can hear samples of all the tracks there. How Dan fits it all in, I do not know!

Anything else you’d like to tell us about…?

I'm busy preparing for two more little Danisms , which, god-willing, will be here in May (twins). With Dan Nu:Tone's three that will make enough for a 5-aside team! For more music and sport related banter, you can keep in touch with us at www.facebook.com/DanismUK

Poland Blog

Ok so the first night went well, we played at club 9 which was intimate and glamourous as were the people.

After the set it was time to head to another party in the same city of Warsaw. none other than Defected in House with the one and only Aaron Ross. I had heard he was stuck in Tokyo so wasn;t sure if he'd make it or not. We got to the club just in time to find Aaron was stuck in far away lands but no worries because  DJ Yass was at hand to smash the place and Friday was nearly over but not quite. Next back to hotel for a few beers! One bottle got smashed and like a fool i trod on the glass after re decorating the 5 star hotel room with blood i was in the ambulance, hospital, stiched up and back to sleep with in an hour and 20 minutes. (better than the NHS me thinks) oh yeah and the hotel room was completlely cleaned by my return truly amazing considering it looked like a scene from Saw b4 i left.

The next day i went to breakfast and  was suprised my foot wasnt hurting and i didnt have  hangover, sweet ! We drove across poland booked a higer car for 2 friends heading over from the uk including the legendary Dr Seb he is amazing person to party with. They missed there flight due to partying all night in the uk so caught a later flight which involved a 5 hour drive across Poland which by coincidence was the same as our journey time and we all arrived in sopot on the northern coast of poland at the same time.

The rest of the night went too fast!!!!   Mandarynka had a great vibe we kept the music nice and underground for the first half of the set and then moved onto some of our Danism vocals for the 2nd half, biggest track of the night seemed to be our new Record with Michael Gray and Rae 'you will remember' B4 I knew it I was on the plane back writing this blog - not so lucky with the hangover today but the foot feels fine. :-)

Dan Liquid Blog - Nov '09

Waiting for call from Dan NuTone - his wife Lizzy has morning sickness, as they bring the third in series of baby Greshams into this strange world. If she feels better we will head into the studio but in the meantime,
an excellent chance I thought to play some Modern Warfare 2.  Then my conversation with Layla from Defected rings home - blog/chart URGENT... Probably done me a favour after getting smashed by Andy Daniels and Simon Marlin last night!

Trying to Make Up my Mind what was my favorite track of the year - an impossible task so ill go with Axwell/Ingrosso/Luke 'Leave this world behind' but it could have just as easily been Tim Greens 'Kitch-In' or Copyright's remix of 'La Mezcla' (they did a great job on that already massive record). ATFC has had a stormer of a year also (could it be 'bon bon' or 'the conversation') and what about Dennis Ferrer's Sinfonia Della Notte?  So much quality on this label we are going to have to work hard to keep up with this level of talent!

Phone rings - sweet, I'm off to the studio.  Pray to the god of House it's a good day... later!
