8 things you didn't know about Dennis Ferrer 1.I have OCD!! ahahahahaha....yeah...everyone tells me this. I am totally compulsive when it comes to working in the studio. I can spend days in the "tomb" ,come out haggard...needing a shave and generally looking busted and still be perfectly content if the track is happenin'. In all honesty I kind of throw myself fully into whatever I'm doing at that moment. The house can be on fire and i'll be damned if I find it a major inconvenience because I was writing a chord progression for a song I'm working on! 2.I love fishing. Particularly Bass fishing. It's just my way of relaxing....no one buggin me for anything, not a care in the world. It's just you on a lake...peaceful and quiet. Gives me plenty of time to reflect on all the dumb stuff i've done and what i've gotta do to correct it! 3. I'm a video game freak. You name it I've got it...or i'm in the process of getting it! No better way to cure writers block than to veg out playin' games for a few hours. What? hey...some cats can sit and watch a cricket match for hours on end and veg...what's wrong with a few hours of gameplay? Same principle no? ....wasting your life away as my better half puts it!!. 4. Pork roast makes me salivate!!! LMAO! Look...i don't know if it's some kind of genetic coding or what...but you throw a picnic roast/shoulder in the oven and I'm in heaven. You know..the p's? Picky Puertoricans Prefer Pork!!! BWHAHAHAHAAH!! Man..that stuff is like crack for us cats here in NYC/NJ. Add yellow rice and beans ...and forget it...it's on. Though i'm not too sure that my heart's gonna thank me for this when i'm older. 5. I used to make Electronic music..when i started out. Well ok...Trance/ambient and full on Techno. I did an album with Tetsu Inoue as OM and an album with Damon Wild as Morph on New Electronica/Beechwood. I've come full circle I guess. Gotta say..the tech skills have come in handy in the last few releases on Ibadan. Everyone's been trying to get me to revist those times....I dunno...maybe i'll do an electronic ep just for old times sake. Stir things up a bit.....might be interesting. 6. I write roughly 100% of all the music and lyrics you hear on my records. Oddly enough...this is not as common as you think. There are producers and then there are songwriters. Two different fields....I fall in between. So now you know that when you hear one of my tunes you'll be really getting all of what I am and what mood i was in. Irk me and you get son of raw...come to think of it...maybe i should be pissed off more often!! 7. I dislike ass-kissers and prefer someone who tells me like it is. I like to think that i am reasonably modest person and if i ask for an opinion on something...then i expect to get it truthfully. Don't kiss my ass cuz you're thinking of the repercussions. 8. I've got a splash of German in my lineage. My great great grandfather was Baron Peter von Freitag. If i recall correctly I was told that there is a castle in Germany that was his and is now used as a museum of some sorts. Wow..what a mix...Bermudan/Puerto Rican/German. The united colors of Benetton run through my blood! LOL.
